You must complete the project in a group of two to four students. Normally, all members of the group will receive the same grade; however, the instructor reserves the right to conduct individual interviews regarding the content of the project and to assign different grades to different members of the group.
Graphing statistical data helps us in analyzing and understanding data. However, poor graphs may result in the misinterpretation of the data. You will locate two poorly constructed graphs per group member. You will discuss, in detail, what is wrong with the statistical aspects of the graph. Finally, you will construct a revised graph that displays the data appropriately. Note: do not choose already critiqued graphs! This project is supposed to assist you in understanding the aspects of a good statistical graph.
Select data and graphs related to your major or field of interest. The graphs should come from professional journals or websites or other approved source. Submit each graph and accompanying discussion on a separate page. Clearly explain your reasoning. Use complete, grammatically correct sentences. Photocopy and cite the graphs (using APA style - see link on the website). You must submit a typewritten report. You will turn in one (1) paper per group. I will keep all submitted projects.
You may submit once prior to the due date to receive feedback on your project.
2.5% for photocopies of the relevant graphs
2.5% for correct citations (if the graphs are NOT cited OR I cannot find the
source of the graph, then you will not receive credit for that graph)
45% points for an explanation of what is wrong with the graphs
45% points for revised graph
INDIVIDUALLY, and on a separate piece of paper (i.e., do NOT attach this to the main part of the project), answer the following questions, in detail (5%):
You will depend on the quality and clarity of your written presentation as well as the mathematical accuracy of your paper.
